03 Feb Weekend at the Heart of GOTS
Getting along well with your neighbours makes your community happier and safer.
This is one reason why Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) is reaching out to the community through its Weekend at the Heart of GOTS programme.
The inaugural event on Feb 15 is to celebrate Valentine’s Day and will offer activities such as cupcake decoration and family games.
“It is always good to know our neighbours. Many residential areas around the school are beginning to fill up,” said GOTS co-founder Veronica Shepherdson.
“We want to do something to ‘introduce’ ourselves to them and hit upon this idea of a weekend activity once a month.
“And we wanted it to be something the whole family can enjoy. For the first event, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day.”
She said family values are very dear to GOTS, thus all programmes would get parents involved as much as possible.
“The programmes will be open to everyone in the neighbourhood and to encourage more families to join, there will be no entrance fee.”
Shepherdson added there would be several such promotions, including a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project for the neighbourhood later in the year.
“We are not just an international school. We consider the City of Elmina and Plaza Jelutong campuses in Shah Alam our homes.
“Of course we want to do what’s best for our homes and our neighbours,” she said.
“I’m sure Weekend at the Heart of GOTS will be something families will look forward to.”
