That’s what friends are for.
That song might have been playing in Rosnieza Abdul Wab’s head when she finally found the perfect school for her daughter Nur Eishal Nur Misuari.
Rosnieza was searching for an international school when a friend, Nasrinah Khan, told her about Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS).
Nasrinah’s daughter, Maryam Mahmud, had just enrolled in GOTS.
“When Nasrinah told me about GOTS, I visited the place and liked it immediately,” said Rosnieza.
“But what mattered more was what my daughter thought as she would be spending her days there.
“Eishal also fell in love with the place, so we enrolled her last year.”
Rosnieza said the clean and calming surroundings and unique teaching methodology convinced her she had made the right choice.
“As long as my daughter is happy, I’m happy,” said Rosnieza.
“She loves going to school. How many parents can say that about their kids?
“The lessons are fun and she gets to express herself. Eishal can be argumentative – without being rude – and this is encouraged at GOTS as it wants its scholars to be thinkers.
“She also enjoys the workshops the school organises, such as the Junior TEDx Talk.
“I hope the school can do more of such programmes as it can help the scholars be more confident in public speaking.”
She said the subjects Eishal enjoys most are speech and drama and SHINE.
Rosnieza added Eishal has improved a lot in her studies in the past year, especially in science and mathematics.
“What I like best is the fact the coaches don’t get upset if she tells them she doesn’t understand what is being taught.
“At her old school, the teachers didn’t like it if a student said he or she didn’t understand. At GOTS, they make sure a child comprehends the subjects.”
Separately, Rosnieza said she enjoyed the recent year-end camp which GOTS organised.
Parents joined the two-day camp on the second day and they did fun activities with their children and they were also shown how lessons are conducted at GOTS.
“It was a wonderful experience and brought us (mother-daughter) closer.
“The hardest part was at the end when we were given a ribbon to pass to her favourite coach.
“We discussed it for a long time as Eishal said every one of them is her favourite.”
