Let GOTS show the way
In January, Malaysia will have a new player in the international school scene.
Global Oak Tree Scholars (GOTS) promises to be different with innovative ideas and teaching styles which are guaranteed to stimulate children’s minds.
Founded by Veronica Shepherdson, an educator for nearly 30 years, GOTS’ secondary school will be located at Plaza Jelutong in Shah Alam, Selangor.
“We aim to be different,” says Shepherdson.
“Our focus will be activity and creative-based teaching which are heuristic in nature. This will enable scholars to learn by discovering things for themselves.
“Our teachers are known as coaches and they need an NLP for the Academics Certification from the American Board of Neuro Linguistic Programme (ABNLP) and a Cambridge International Diploma for Teacher Learners.”
Two important elements in the school would be its financial literacy lessons (FinancialSmart) and SHINE – the first experiential Emotional Intelligence (EQ) focused training framework in Southeast Asia.
Then there is a segment called Chilling Out which incorporates elements such as hip-hop dance and speech and drama to break the monotony of studies.
The aim is to ensure scholars are well supported socially, emotionally and physically. It also means taking measured risks to ensure academic excellence, develop passion and build character.
“Secondary school can be a big challenge for many, but we are trying to lessen the burden or pressure on them by incorporating some fun elements,” adds Shepherdson.
“As we have discovered, a happy scholar makes for a better scholar and the ultimate aim is to build well-rounded persons who can easily interact with society once they leave us.”
